The new John Deere Gator off-road vehicles with AutoTrac support give farmers and ranchers the ability to operate the vehicle hands-free.
John Deere never ceases to amaze with its developments in the field of agricultural technology. Now John Deere is offering the new AutoTrac Ready option on its new John Deere Gator full-size truck series to give farmers and ranchers hands-free operation and increased versatility.
For now, the system will be installed on select models; in the future, it may be installed on the entire lineup.
“John Deere is enabling farmers to achieve the increased productivity achieved with AutoTrac technology on their tractors and integrate it into a smaller and more manoeuvrable vehicle, the Gator Utility Vehicle,” said Maureen McCormack, market launch manager for Gator Utility Vehicles for John Deere.
The AutoTrac-enabled Gator Utility Vehicles are now available factory-fitted with the necessary wiring harnesses and brackets for John Deere process equipment. Customers can order a 4640 universal display and a StarFire 7000 receiver to be added to their Gator, or they can use devices they already own. Once the subscription is activated, farmers can use hands-free steering to reduce duplication, increase operator efficiency and reduce operator fatigue.

The StarFire 7000 receiver is the latest addition to John Deere’s suite of precision farming technologies. The StarFire 7000 receiver provides greater accuracy, faster incorporation and repeatability from season to season. This means less equipment, faster recovery after a shading event and the certainty that your guide lines and boundaries won’t change from year to year.
John Deere 4640 Universal Display
The 4640 universal display comes from the factory with the following three features included in the display package, so you can easily take your first steps towards precision farming:
- AutoTrac guidance
- Documentation
- Data synchronisation
Combine the display with a StarFire™ receiver and you’re ready to get started with automatic steering, creating maps showing the work you’ve done and, if you’ve got JDLink™, sending the data wirelessly to your John Deere Operations Centre. When you’re ready to do even more, add a 4640 Premium Subscription or 4640 Automation Subscription for more advanced precision farming applications.
The AutoTrac assisted steering system boosts operator productivity by maintaining constant, repeatable accuracy and efficiency as the machine moves across the field. By turning on AutoTrac, operators can stay alert and concentrate on managing machine settings and changing field conditions.
“Farmers and ranchers can use their Gator off-road vehicle equipped with AutoTrac to accurately sample, spray and create field boundaries,” McCormack said. “Gator UVs equipped with AutoTrac combine functionality and versatility to help improve efficiency and productivity in day-to-day operations.”
The AutoTrac Ready option is available for John Deere 835/865 cabs from the 2023 model year, including the XUV835M HVAC, XUV835R, XUV835R Signature Edition, XUV865M HVAC, XUV865R and XUV865R Signature Edition.
Also notable for the MY23, the following features are included in the base price of the Gator full-size SUVs:
- Factory-installed side mirrors to improve visibility in cab vehicles
- Spray-applied padding in the cargo area for extra durability on M and R trim vehicles.
- Load compartment lift for easy unloading on all R-trim models
- Brake and tail lights for extra visibility on M and R trim models.
- Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 extreme radial tyres on steel rims on M-trim vehicles
- Predator Heavy-Duty all terrain radial tyres on R-trim vehicles
All E- and M-trim vehicles are supplied ex-factory with black vinyl multi-passenger seats. The R-trim package includes a stone cloth bench and a black vinyl bench. All Signature Edition models are fitted with a leather multi-seat seat. Previously used yellow and bucket seat variants are no longer used on full-size vehicles.
