John Deere's investment in Kreisel Electric

John Deere’s investment in Kreisel Electric will increase battery production capacity to more than 2 GWh.

As a reminder, John Deere acquired a majority stake in Kreisel, an Austrian company that produces innovative battery solutions for electric vehicles and stationary energy storage systems, in early 2022.

Funds from the investment were used for mobile commercial and industrial solutions, as well as Kreisel’s charging infrastructure division.

Sept. 21, 2022 – Deere & Company (a John Deere trademark) announced its next steps to meet the growing demand for battery power as a single or hybrid propulsion system.

In addition to a manufacturing facility in Austria, John Deere is making an immediate investment in two additional locations to increase production capacity at Kreisel Electric (“Kreisel”)

The significant investment will increase Kreisel’s battery production capacity by more than 2 GWh

John Deere plans to open a new factory in Orleans-Saran, France, where John Deere’s main engine production facility in Europe, John Deere Saran, is located.

Along with the John Deere Saran project in Europe, John Deere will invest in the production and more precisely the assembly of batteries in the US.

“John Deere is committed to providing its customers with solutions that revolutionize the way they work while delivering sustainable value.”

– Deere said in a press release.

“This investment will focus on industrializing and automating the entire manufacturing process, as well as research and development capabilities at Kreisel’s Rheinbach headquarters,”

said Jennifer Preston, global director of John Deere Electric Power.

Using the experience gained at John Deere Saran manufacturing sites, Kreisel will have access to world-class supply chain management, production engineering, quality assurance, logistics coordination and advanced automation solutions.

“We welcome this strategic investment, which will help us meet the ever-growing international demand for Kreisel battery technology.”

-said Markus Kreisel, managing director of Kreisel Electric.
